Premature Baby Left To Die

The lights are dim, and the room is quiet. There is a cold feeling all around but no windows are open. There is no movement at all. All is quiet except the sound of soft whimpers coming from beside the small box in the hospital room. A mother is holding her premature child’s lifeless body. In the United Kingdom, they cannot try and save a premature child’s life if it is born before 22 weeks.

On September 10, 2009, Sarah Capewell watched her son, Jayden, who was born 21 weeks and 5 days early, die in her arms. According to Miss Capewell, Jayden was a “little fighter.” He was moving around and had a strong heartbeat. She pleaded for help, but the doctors told her it was against the rules to save him because he was born 2 days too early. When she told one pediatrician “they have got to help,” he replied with, “No we don’t.” She was told to treat the birth as a miscarriage. After Jayden’s death, Miss Capewell had to fight with hospital officials to get his birth and death certificates so they could have a proper burial for him.

I feel it shouldn’t matter how early a child is born. Every child deserves the chance to live. An early life is still a life. The law that states different is messed up and needs to be changed. Doctors jobs are to help save people, and they refused to do so in this case.
